I finally got hit with the dandruff and I was utterly appalled. OMG, how could this be? And I'm not fully loc'd yet, so I cant wash until I see my loctician in 2 weeks. *sigh*

When i complain about my short length, veteran loc'ers always give me that line about enjoying it while I can. I still have a ways to go before I can have an updo though...can't wait for that.

Btw, have you ever thought of trying eucalyptus essential oil to help with your dandruff? I read that this essential oil in particular is highly beneficial to clearing up dandruff.

i, also, suggest a loctician to start locs, if you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with starting your own coils, twists, braids, etc. but, as a self starter & DIYer, i must say that it's not as hard as it seems once you get some practice in. and it's cheap! lol. palm rolling/finger twisting is really quite easy.

ain't gon' lie... i still don't love my locs, and i've been wearing them as long as you have (although this is my second set).

i think it's personal, and it's not shameful or bad to admit that you don't love something. what's important is that instead of cutting them off, we stick it out and learn to love it.

i used to do the same thing with my TWA when it was wet, and brown gel. any coily-kinked hair will do this while damp. believe me. i've done it for plenty of my friends. the key to this is texture and damp hair.

Nice answers! I def. agree with going to a professional to get your locs started, I think it is easier to get it done by a professional first and then maintain it on your own so you can have a relationship with your hair (though there's nothing wrong with going back to a loctitian to get them maintained, but i don't see myself going back anytime soon). I know some people who have started off their locs on their own and it looks amazing, but I couldn't have done it. Do you oil your hair/scalp at all? Are you interested in trying essential oils? EO's is the only thing I want to add to my regime, just to try something new, but like you said i'm always gonna go back and stick with the basics (aloe vera, glycerin, dr. bronner's, and olive oil).

Thanks for this post! I JUST realized I do NOTHING with my locs. After reading this, I hopped on the 'tube and started searching for styles. I tried my first one yesterday and I had sooo many compliments! I also realized my locs are longer than I thought. I am going to keep experimenting. Thanks for the locspiration!

Though i don't really care about hair length, i'm looking forward to my locs being longer just so i can style my hair more and do styles that have been done by Chescaleigh/Chescalocs. The not-too-short but not too long enough to style stage is frustrating because you want to spice it up a little but you can't (other than wearing a loc jewelry piece).

That's mad futuristic, but after looking at some of the comments, you may be able to do this at home without buying this product. It's still super spiff though.
