Ahhh yesss, I'm smiling in this picture but I really wasn't happy with my hair at this point. I straightened it and couldn't get the natural hair to come back. During this time, I was rocking nappy hair and straight hair. It was awful. But it also gave me the motivation to BC a second time and start locs.
Funny how life happens, uh? This was also when I spent A LOT of time playing around in make-up. Now, even as a beauty blogger, it takes some a whole heap of a lot for me to do more than liner and mascara every day. Womp.
What ultimately made you decide to loc your hair?
This feels like another lifetime
ReplyDeleteOMG! You and I have almost the same experience. I had achieved a really great afro (you couldn't tell me that my hair didn't rival Angela Davis'), but I wanted to wear a hat for New Year's Eve so I had it pressed. MISTAKE! I wore my hat, partied it up on NYE, and washed my hair the next day. The hair didn't go back. I washed it 4 more times that day and nothing happened! I was so heart-broken and mad. I actually went to the shop and demanded that they fix it. They just laughed and told me that it took time. A month later, my hair was still partially straight and stringy. I bc'd and started my locs and the rest is history. Well, not really- to this day when I pass by that salon I give it a squinty side-eye.
ReplyDeleteI decided to loc my hair after a long time of me just not being happy with it. My fro was huge but washing, detangling, and styling became a pain and time consuming!! I used to love playing in my hair, but once it got to a longer length I hated it!! So I started my loc journey with two strand twists 3 months ago. This blog is a great inspiration! Thanks!!

Hey! I must say that I LOVE your hair! My loc story is actually very interesting. I started it first in September 2009 with loc extensions that kept for about 9 months and then took down to wear my own hair. I had a nice length, but I noticed that they were a lot bigger in the back. I took those down and then decided that I'd try a fro and a little color before I locked again. Long story short: the beautician cut too much of my hair and the color caused my hair to break off...Now I'm back to square one! I started my locs on Thanksgiving and I vow not to ever mutilate them again! lol
ReplyDeleteI didn't feel like my 'fro was really me. Which lead me to research other natural styles and lead me to start loc'ing... it was like a hand in glove feeling. I get compliments on my hair all the time even when I am in dire need of a retwisting, so that is really nice.
