Baby boy natural hair!

I am a proud Auntie. PROUD! Addaeyomi is one of my best friend's sons and I just love showing him off. The last time he came to visit, I took a mess load of picture for his portfolio. He is a budding model. But not by force. He is 2 years old, listens to instructions and he LOVES the camera!

And I love his hair. A lot of little boys rock short fades and that's cute too but I love how his Mommy hasn't cut his hair yet. Granted, a lot of folx say he looks like a girl and she has to fight to do his hair every morning...

...but he is still the cutest thing ever!

I love him.

Any Mommies out there? Did you cut your son's hair after he turned 1? Or if you're not a Mommy yet, do you see yourself cutting your future son's hair?

I've always loved fades on baby boys but Addae and his beautiful hair has me thinking that it's okay to let the hair grow. Then again I do not know how to braid THAT much hair so er uh....we'll just have to see about that.

I don't see myself cutting my child's hair. More than likely I would probably try and lock his hair from an early age, just because it seems like it will be easier for me to do his hair in locs than when it would be loose.

In the West Indies - or actually maybe it's just in Trinidad I'm not sure - we don't cut a little boy's hair until he starts speaking. So it's pretty common to see little boys with lots of hair.

This child is gorgeous...those little feet in the last picture? I just want to bit them!

We cut our son's hair when she was around 18 months. We've talked about growing it out since (he's 9 now), but he loves getting dirty outside and I don't think any of us are up for daily washing and grooming. Getting him to take a good shower every day is hard enough.

I have 3 boys and all of them had wonderful curls. I held on to my oldest son's curls almost to 2 yrs old but then hubby/dad intervened. Baby boy was so tenderheaded that it just made life easier on everybody to cut it. The other two got cuts right at 1. But I still have the hair locks saved. Two out of the three had pretty sizeable curlfros!

My background is Trinidadian as well and that is what I was taught: you don't cut a boy's hair until they begin speaking. I notice many other people don't follow that rule.

People are really different when it comes to this. I believe that since I didn't have a girl, I shouldn't have to do hair. So I cut my son's hair when he turned 2.

@B- I can see this little guy wearing dreads, he would look so cute and cool! (well, cuter than he is now hehe). Is there a reason why they are debating if they should give him dreads or not?

He is TOO adorable!! He reminds me of my son at that age. My son (who is now 12 and loced and featured recently on my blog) had curls like that. And people said he looked like a girl. People still do! Me and his daddy never wanted his hair cut. My son went to visit his grandmother for an extended period when he was 2 cuz I was having surgery. He came back with a low hair cut. We were LIVID!! She said she cut it because she was tired of messing with it. She didn't even ask us!! My son's father didn't speak to his mother for months!! So we let it grow out and loced it up right before his 3rd birthday.

I think the debate comes because they may be concerned about giving their son a choice of how he wants to wear his hair. At such a young age, he doesn't have a choice. My son chose to cut his hair (locs) at 6 because he was tired of people thinking he was a girl. He decided he wanted locs again at 10. That was our dilemma.

My son's hair wasn't cut until he asked for it to be cut. He was almost 3. One of the choices his father and I agreed on was that our son would always have a say in how his hair looked. Especially because it's HIS hair. Even now at 15, I allow him to do what he wants with it. I give him information and he takes that info and processes it how he likes.

@Ness They don't want to loc his hair because they want HIM to make the decision to do that. But I wonder at what age can a child make that decision?

My son is 2 years old and I made the mistake of cutting his hair when he was only one. I wont cut it again. Its simce grown back and he has the most beautiful curls. Your nephew is absolutely adorable B!

I cut my son's hair after he turned one or starts speaking according to our culture and tradition. He had a head full of hair and at times some questioned whether he was a girl especially when it was braided. Your little nephew is a cutie pie. :)

I'm from the South and it's all about cutting a boy's hair when he turns one. My DH keeps saying he's gonna take our future son(s) to get their hair cut but I'm not feelin' it at all. I love little boys with lots of hair.

He's a cutie pie. Reminds me of Jaden Smith.

He's a cutie! My son had alternating ponytails and two strand twists until he was 2yrs old. Then his dad (WHO HAS LOCS!!!) took him to the barbershop and got it all cut off. Needless to say, I was ticked. Right now he's rockin' a way-to-curly, 5" mohawk, with a design in the scalp on one side - he's almost 5 now.

My husband cut our sons hair at a year old but it was because he was going to deploy and wanted to be the one to do his first cut. Once he turned 2 I took him to the barber for the first time. His hair was past his shoulders in braids, I was exhausted braiding all of that every 6-7 days :)

I totally jacked up my last comment...

He is such a ham! We're planning on not cutting our boy's hair. Sure wish it would grow longer or we may have to trim it down. He's 2 with a mini fro.
