Washing 'de locs!

Yesterday I washed my hair. Yaaay! Washing my hair is always a nice little treat. I'm trying to tweak my routine so that I can do it more often. I would LOVE to wash once a week.

Does anyone with locs do that? Hmm...

Anywhoovers....so my Oyin Handmade shipment hadn't come in yet (it came today...HA!) so I picked up some shampoo and conditioner that was a STAPLE when I first went natural back in like....'05.

Yeah, SLS and 'cones and parabens galore but my hair has ALWAYS loved this stuff. I used the conditioner virtually everyday when I did wash-n-go's. I wanted to give it a whirl on the locs.

First I scratched my head like mad and brought all of the dandruff to the surface.

It's not a pretty job but it has to get done.

Shampoo!

And then conditioner....

There is something awfully cool about conditioner filled locs. I kinda love it.

I then braided the locs down and sat under the dryer for like an hour.

I shall post results in the next day or so. The loc'ies celebrate their 11th month b-day!!

Girl I have to wash minimum every 4 days. My scalp has thanked me for it as well. I did a blog post and vblog about this about 3 weeks ago.

I shampoo my locs once a week and rinse once during that same week. My hair loves the water. Also if you're having trouble with dandruff, check out Neem oil and I think Sage might help.

I wash my hair every week and I love it. It feels so good, I can't wait till my ends seal so I can go back to my daily condition washes in addition to my weekly full washes like when I was natural.

Wow! I'm off, judging from these comments. I've been locked for 1 1/2 yrs now and I was my hair every 2-3 wks, but that's what I used to do before locks. I would love to wash more, but it takes ENTIRELY too long to retwist my roots. This is one of the reasons I've been considering latching, but that was too complicated for me when I tried.

I've had locs for 6 months, and I wash every 2 weeks or so. Glad to say they're falling apart less and staying down more :-) Your blog (and a few others) inspired me to document my loc journey as well. Stop by and comment if you have a chance!

I'm such a lazy loc wearer.. I wash three times a month.-And that's good month. It takes my locs a long time to dry, now they are so long. Great pics!

I wash my locs every 2-3 weeks. It also takes me way to long to retwist, and for them to dry, to do it any more often. BUT, ive been trying some new products lately (Oyin handmade, Mango and Lime, etc) and am so excited that I'm gonna start trying to wash weekly :)

How does that VO5 conditioner work to soften your locs? Ive been looking for a good deep conditioner for locs and havent been able to find one that a lot of people swear by...

I just have twists but you guys wash with shampoo? And wash that often? I'm once a week or every 2 weeks, just using the ACV and conditioner for now.

Hi.. I love your blog. I started my locs in October and i love it. My husband grand mother started them for me. Mostly all of his family has locs and have been started and maintained by her. So it shocked me a little when I read your blog and saw other comments about washing your locs once a week or maybe every other. My hubbys fam and me included don't wash as frequently. I think my longest has been 2months before I washed them. Now I wash and twist one month then the next month I just do a retwist. I've found my hair grows more quickly. I this odd to anyone? Are there other who don't wash frequently?

Dezi---> I have a friend who has been loc'ing her hair for several years and she washes every other month. Do what works for you! I HAVE to wash pretty frequently because of dandruff. :(
