Update on the combined locs

It's been a minute since I've dropped an update on the locs that I've combined. If you're new to Loc Rocker, a few moons ago I decided that I wanted thicker locs. I did this while my locs were still in their fuzzy infancy. I simply 2-strand twisted two locs together and secured them with rubberbands. I eventually removed the rubberbands because they were just so unsightly.

I ain't even gonna lie. It was such a process. I had serious issues with my locs and I didn't like them. But eventually, the combined locs began to marry. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you want to thicken your locs via combining, brace yourself. It's a tough journey.

In my case, I doubled the size of 95% of my locs. Going from close to 200 locs to close to 100 locs. And as I look around my head, there are still a few that I want to combine. Like these 2 for example...

I combined these last week. I picked out the bottom of both of these locs by using a toothpick. At the base, I created a slit with my finger at the root of one of the locs and slide the other loc down.

And then I twisted allllll the way down. Crazy how they already look like one loc, uh? And as for the former combined locs? They've all married beautifully. I mean, it's amazing what the hair will do when you aren't obsessing over it. Every single one of these locs were combined but you can't even tell.

As for my double headed dragons, eventually I'll chop them off. I only have a few. I've been picking out locs, revealing loose hair and twisting them from that. And as for my 3 headed dragons?

I  threaded some black thread through the loc. Because my hair is slightly darker, it isn't AS noticeable so that works. I am in love with the thicker locs. They feel like a whole new site of locs. And now my paranoia of the disappearing hairline will cease.

Any loc combining sistas out there? How is the process going for y'all?

As you know B i've combined since last fall and I like the turn out. it is amazing how much your hair changes once you leave it alone. I hardly even think about my locs anymore, hence is why i haven't updated my blog in awhile, i just don't have anything to say lol. Glad that you love your locs more and more now since they've combined :). It's definitely rough, the combining process, but it's def. worth it.

Let me say first that your locs are gorgeous and I love your blogs! I've been following your posts about combining and the ups and downs of the locing journey and can totally relate to a lot of what you've said. Like you, I too am on a quest to have thicker locs. I actually just combined a bunch of them last night after washing my hair. Combining is definitely an arduous process, but strong, thick loc bases give me peace of mind. :-) Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I have not combined but I am thinking about it. Initially I wanted my locs smaller as I equated that with more versatility but now I am not so sure. There are a few that seem quite thin and it makes me nervous. Still debating...thank you for sharing your journey your locs have truly grown and are beautiful

Looking good B! Well my journey for thicker locs turned into me picking the damn things out!! I'm loose for now and I don't know when I'm going to start over. But whenever I start over, I will start them a lot thicker than before.

You should check out this video the next time you want to combine because the method she uses seems to give instant results. I haven't tried it(because I'm a newbie and I made my locs larger from the beginning) but hers look smooth and natural right when she's done. No rubbers necessary. I hope this helps.

Your locs are coming along so beautifully! All that stressing for nothing! I've combined about 20 locs into 10 along the outer edges and so far so good! I two strand twisted them and then latched the roots to make sure they stayed. Only thing is some of them unwisted at the ends.

I first went natural because I felt like I needed more versatility. Then I thought since I wore my permed hair in textured styles anyway so I thought I might as well go natural. Finally I realized that I wanted to see the real me. I wanted to see and appreciate the hair God blessed me with it. I've always enjoyed all of God's creations. Now I fully enjoy me, also one of God's creations now more BEAUTIFUL, NATURAL, and more FREE!

Yeah, I was going to say thread them up as an alternative but the YouTube video has a step by step covered for you.

My current loctician - I've been with her for almost 4 years - threads for all kinds of quick loc repair, including joining if needed.

That said, Brittany, your method worked out nicely.
