Want your hair to grow?

....just go natural!

A friend of mine JUST texted me and was telling me how irritated she was about her permed hair not growing. She said she stopped putting heat to it as much and she even switched up to natural products. After getting fed up, she put her hair and braids and twists.

My response? "Just go natural..."

Seriously. The above picture is of my hair at 11 months after I started loc'ing. I started off with just 2-3 inches of hair and in less than a year, my hair has grown tremendously.

So my sisters....if you're holding on to the perm and braids and weaves and annoyed with the lack of hair growth---go natural. Even if you plan on perming again, the benefits of low maintenance natural hairstyles are innumerable.

Rock on, y'all!!

Do you have to totally cut off all your hair and start over to be consider natural? I haven
't perm my hair since april 09 because it dry out my scalp. Since than my hair has been growing and growing so I just want to know what you think.

Mavis---> Noooo, you don't HAVE to cut it all off. But I think it's better to. It gives you the chance to learn about your hair as it grows. However, a lot of people don't feel comfortable with short natural hair. And that's fine. You have to do what works for you. But I'm telling you....cutting it off is soooo liberating!

I agree.. Cutting it all off. aka The BC (Big Chop) is very liberating. When I went natural, I cut all of my hair off.. Down to a fade. It was the best feeling ever!

Preach Candace! I'm going to BC a third time when I'm ready to chop the locs. I mean, not that that will happen any time soon, ya know. HA!

I totally agree! The key to growth is going natural and being kind to your hair!

@Mavis: Heat and chemicals cause so much irreversible damage which results in breakage, so even if your hair is growing there is little length retention. I didn't do an official big chop while going natural--I transitioned for what felt like forever (1.5 years) and then cut off my relaxed ends, leaving a head full of healthy, natural hair. It takes alot of patience and knowledge to transition though. Good luck :)

this post is so true! when i had a perm, my hair never grew beyond a bob (somewhere between my chin and shoulders). I have some breakage, but even when my hair seemed in good condition, it just didn't grow! I've now had natural hair for 9 years, locs for 8, and my hair is down to the bottom of my back. never wouldve grown so much with chemicals.

I don't think it's necessary to do the B.C. to go natural. Over the course of my life, I have gone natural via "no perms" 3 times. Before I started locking, though, all of the coloring, pressing, & hot curling continued to give me hair troubles. That, amongst other things, led me to locking. And my hair has grown tremendously. I love my locks and look forward to increased versatility as they grow!

LA Jefferson---> Rock on, sis! I was always impatient with transitioning so I chopped in a matter of months.
