Just how adorable is Lil' Jon's son, Nathan?
Yeaaahhhhh!!
Sorry. Y'all know I had to do it. Don't act like you weren't jammin' to Lil' Jon back in the day. ;)
I adore locs on young boys. Speaking of boys with locs...remember my nephew with the enormous afro? His Mom has decided to loc his hair. He's been growing locs now for a good month or so. When I finally take a trip down to Miami to visit them, I'l be sure to take pictures.

Doing baby girl's hair...
I saw this over at Afroniquely You and I was just amazed. YouTube-r, Sista Chick has a series of videos that shows how she washes, detangles and styles her daughter's hair. Little Chick has a head full of beautiful natural hair that at first glance can look a little cumbersome, but Sista Chick made the routine look like a breeze.
She was gentle and it looked as if she really enjoyed doing her daughter's hair. And I didn't hear baby girl cry or wince not one time.
My Mom is the greatest person in the world, but I wish she would have taken the time to learn and do my hair instead of throw a perm up in it. And even before I had a perm, I don't ever remember "hair day" ever being a pleasant experience. It was terrifying. Kudos to Sista Chick! Watching her series of videos really opened my mind up because while I'd love to loc my daughter's hair, I really want HER to be able to make that decision. It's great to know that in the meantime, I've got some tips of how to keep her scalp and hair healthy and beautiful without leaving her in tears and leaving me frustrated.
Why I'm talking about "my daughter" as if she exists is beyond me. Don't even give that "eye" y'all, because I'm going to be one of those first time almost 40 Mothers. Hmmm mmmm....
How was your experiences getting your hair done as I young brown girl?

Brown babies with locs...
Okay seriously, how cute are they?
I was strolling on BlackCelebrityKids.com and came across an article about these actresses. Yep, they are loc rockin' movie and TV stars. I love how in an industry that is predominately straight haired, the parents of these chicas have decided to keep their daughters' natural hair. And locs.
So beautiful.

Baby boy natural hair!
I am a proud Auntie. PROUD! Addaeyomi is one of my best friend's sons and I just love showing him off. The last time he came to visit, I took a mess load of picture for his portfolio. He is a budding model. But not by force. He is 2 years old, listens to instructions and he LOVES the camera!
And I love his hair. A lot of little boys rock short fades and that's cute too but I love how his Mommy hasn't cut his hair yet. Granted, a lot of folx say he looks like a girl and she has to fight to do his hair every morning...
...but he is still the cutest thing ever!
I love him.
Any Mommies out there? Did you cut your son's hair after he turned 1? Or if you're not a Mommy yet, do you see yourself cutting your future son's hair?
I've always loved fades on baby boys but Addae and his beautiful hair has me thinking that it's okay to let the hair grow. Then again I do not know how to braid THAT much hair so er uh....we'll just have to see about that.

That's British model Jamelia with her gorgeous daughters Tiani (3) and Teja (8). How adorable are they?
Did I ever tell y'all that I want to name one of my daughters' Breeze? Every time I tell people that, they laugh. Haters, I say. That's the coolest name ever!

Baby's 1st Haircut: An Open Letter
I'm the one to the left. The 20-month old boy. I'm taking over my cousin's hair blog for the day. After all, I have a hair story too. A few days ago, I took a trip to see Santa for the first time. Sitting on his lap wasn't the easiest thing. I didn't even know that man like that. Anyway, big cuzzo B and I were both rockin' curls. Her locs were rockin' and my fro was....I don't know. I was cute though. Then comes the idea of me getting my first hair cut. A BIG CHOP? I wasn't feelin' that idea at all.
It's written all over my face, right?
But, the hair cut turned out to be okay! Man, I look good!
Am I not huggable or what?
What the...did she HAVE to go there? She's the weird one in the family. And I'm the cute one. I'll talk to you guys later. There's a bowl of water with rubber duckies in it calling my name.
Bye bye,
Baby B

Loc Spotlight: Simone
This past weekend I spent a lot of time listening to jazz music.
As much as I love gospel, classical, soul, funk, disco, jungle, rock, R&B (circa 50's-90's) etc, my soul is with jazz music. If I could marry it, I would.
I love big bang New Orleans jazz. And I love smooth jazz (Wayman Tisdale and Euge Groove). I love jazz infused with hip-hop (Hidden Beach). I just love. jazz.
Simone, the daughter of the late and great Nina Simone, is amazing! I have been playing her album for almost a year now. Her sultry voice is different from her Mother's but the girl can bloooow.
Here's an interview with her:
And what do you know? She is also a loc rocker!

Her daughter 9-year old daughter is even loc rockin'!

Rock on Nina! Legacy passing is such a beautiful thing to me.

Natural Head Spotlight: Yara Shahidi
Ya'll know I loooove featuring little girls with natural hair styles. The beautiful Jaida has me envious of her gorgeous locs. Malia Obama had me reminiscing about the days of having braids and twists.
Check out Yara Shahidi's curls!

Check out Yara Shahidi's curls!

How beautiful is she? And look at that little pose. Soooo cute and classy. She's headed to 5th grade and still rocking her hair naturally. When I was headed to 5th grade my hair had already been permed and I had noooo idea how my hair looked in its natural state. Seeing little brown girls rockin' natural hair says a looooot to me. Rock on, Persian beauty!
You can find out more about Yara here.
Peace and loc've.

Because having nappy hair...hurts.
I owe an update of my locs' 7th month birthday. I didn't forget! I just have to find to take awesome photos on my Blackberry. I left my camera charger at my Mom's house 4 hours away. Boo.
But in the meantime, check out this vid.
THIS is the reason why little Black girls screeeeam at the sight of a comb.
This is insane!! Why is her Momma (but I bet you $10 that's her cousin) combing her hair like that?
-And why is it taking so long?
-And why didn't she section her hair?
-And what the hell is she spritzing in her hair?

So many questions. My Mom/cousins never combed my hair THAT hard but I remember hating to get my hair done because let's be honest...

Having nappy hair
hurts
I will never forget the day my Mom made me go to school with my hair lookin' like a ragga muffin' because I was a hot cryin' mess. I didn't want her to comb it. And so she didn't.
---One of the after school teachers ended up hookin' me up with a style though.
But still.
Little nappy headed girls never get to glorify and love their natural hair because they always associate it with PAIN.
Moms with babies who have thicker hair, please be gentle. Remember what it was like when you got your hair combed. And to my permies....having nappy hair STILL hurts for y'all. I don't know what's worse. Having my natural hair combed or letting a perm sit on my head for a few minutes. You would try to endure the pain because you wanted your hair to be as straight as possible. Now that's pain. And whether natural or permed....
Having nappy hair
hurts
But it doesn't have to.
